Digital Nomads vs The Real Life
Digital Nomads vs The Real Life. Hi Guys, I am Roman, and I am from France. We are making videos about the Digital Nomad lifestyle every Wednesday and Sunday so if you do not want to miss any episodes, do not forget to subscribe and to hit the notification bell.
I have now lived in Malaysia for the past 3 years. I have pretty much been traveling and working abroad all my life and never felt that I wanted to settle down in France.
Before I met Fizah, I was working to travel. It means that I was saving as much as I could for 6 to 8 months in order to go traveling for 6 months or more and I have done this for 10 years.
But living that way is not being a Digital Nomad. Digital Nomad will move from location to location but they will actually make money online while traveling.
On the other hand, being in normal life, having a job, a house, and paying your bills monthly is totally different. Some people love it as they feel secure and they are happy going on holiday twice a year, however others hate it and they dream of being able to travel the world.
Let’s break it up to see the differences between being a Digital nomad vs the real life.
Experience the Wonders of the World
Being a Digital nomad will allow you to travel the world and visit exciting places, walking on the Great wall of china, hiking in Nepal or riding a bike in Vietnam.
The world has an abundance of natural and human-made sites to visit, activities to enjoy, and cultural experiences to tick off the bucket list.
Spending longer periods of time in a country enables you to fully appreciate local cultures, cuisines, and customs; learn more, and develop meaningful friendships.
On the other hand, if you prefer a normal life, you will probably have 4 or 5 weeks holidays a year and will not be able to travel or experience the culture of the country that you are visiting as much as a Digital nomad would.
While living a normal life, you will be able to participate and be present to all the family events. Celebrate birthdays, weddings, new births or simply enjoy a night out with your friends.
Being at home all the time allows you to be closer to your family and friends. We all know that technology permits us to communicate way easier than it was a decade ago but it will never be the same.
Digital nomads often miss all the good parties. No matter how big or small, you’re going to miss out on a lot of stuff from back home. This is hard. The hardest part for me personally is being away from my cousin and my close friends.
They don’t fully understand my lifestyle yet and always ask, ‘why am I leaving abroad so much and why I do not just stay home, because they miss me.’ My heart shatters a little every time that comes out of their mouth, but I know deep inside that is not the lifestyle that I want and that I prefer being abroad.
Improved Quality Of Life
When you’re working online it gives you the ability to work from anywhere in the world. This means you can pick locations that offer you the best quality of life. For me, Bali offers me the best quality of life. It offers me:
- An abundance of affordable, healthy food
- Ease of a healthy and active lifestyle
- It’s warm and sunny (gotta get that vitamin D)
- It’s safe and the people are friendly
- There are a lot of like-minded people
- It’s a quality lifestyle at an affordable price
Living a normal life often leads to stress! Not always obviously but most of the time. I know people that live in Paris and every day they need to wake up at 5:30 am in the morning, spend 1 to 2 hours in order to go to work, another 7 to 8 hours at the office and 1 to 2 hours to get back home.
It may suit you but if you had the chance between this lifestyle or working right in front of the beach, what would you choose?
If you are between 18 to 35 years old and want to live abroad for a while and discover another country but you are still scared you could for example give it a goal for one year and see how it goes.
Global Work and travel has many programs that will help you to get started and one of the best things you could do is to start with a Working Holiday Visa.
You could go for example:
To Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, or the USA
They will literally provide everything for you so if you want to know more about it, click on the link in the description below.
The usual lifestyle
If you are living a normal life, you are following the rules. You went to school, to university, you got a degree, then you met your loved one and got married, bought a house, had children and a good job with a good salary.
Congratulations, you are normal!
On the other hand, not many people understand Digital Nomads.
People will not understand your desire to leave all the time and they certainly won’t understand how you make your money online.
Here’s the thing, you’re expanding horizons and the average person lives an average life, so you can’t expect them to get you and that’s OK. They don’t need to get it, as long as you are happy.
Personal & Professional Growth
This has to be, by far, one of the greatest benefits. I think I’ve said that a lot but really thought, this has been a HUGE perk for me. The amount of personal and professional growth that I’ve experienced over the last 3 years.
Being your own boss changes everything. It challenges your viewpoints and helps you learn things about yourself you didn’t even realize you needed to learn.
We only started this youtube channel 8 months ago and within 8 months, I learned how to use a video camera and how to edit my footage. I would probably have never learned this kind of thing if I had a normal life.
Of course you can also grow while working for a company. You could for example be promoted and get extra cash at the end of the month.
On the other hand, you may not have the time to learn new skills or do something new every week as your time may be limited and that you will prefer to spend time with your family over the weekend.
As far as I’m concerned, I choose to be independent. I want to be able to travel the world and be my own boss.
We started this journey 8 months ago and we still have a long way to go before we can be successful but we are working hard on it every day and I know deep inside that our dream will come true.
Let me know if you rather be a Digital nomad or if you prefer the Normal lifestyle?
